Rila run 2023

Results

Date and place: 6th August 2023, 9 a.m.,  Samokov, BULGARIA.

Organizers: Samokov Municipality, Borosport, Marathon Association.

Disciplines: Mountain running race of 21km (Samokov – Musala peak) and 14km (Samkov – Yastrebets hut).

Eligibility: Unlimited for physically and mentally healthy people 15 to 70 YO. Participants are required to follow the markings, to observe the traffic rules and regulations before, during and after the race. All personal expenses are on the account of the participants

Racing categories: Men, Women, Junior men and women up to 20, Masters 45+, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70.

Track: Start: At the entrance of the park next to stadium “Iskar” stadium (970 m altitude) 42 ° 19’29.76 “23 ° 33’34.20″ I. The track begins in the park on an eco-trail along the Iskar river, at 3km begins an uphill with a forest road to camp Sokolets – 8km, the asphalt road is then crossed and the track continues South on a marked forest path towards Sokolets peak, passes through the meadow under Mount Ivanov Kamak and continues on a path in an open terrain that leads to the “saddle” of Yastrebets; an open path to Musala hut follows – 18km, the last 3km pass through a stony path to the peak. Final: Musala peak (21 km, 2925 m alt.). D+2000.

The track is subject to modification if deemed necessary.

It is possible to finish at the shorter distance Refreshment station 2. Yastrebets (14km D+1200) regardless of the participant’s application. Awards will be distributed in the categories Men and Women.

Refreshment stations: 1. Sokolets (9km, 1400 m alt.); 2. Yastrebets (14km, 2350 m alt.); 3. Hut Musala (18 km, 2389 m alt.); 4. Ledenoto Ezero (19.5 km, 2709 m alt.)

Programme:
6th August

7:45-8:30h – Registration for the race at the start zone.

9:00h. – Start.

15:30h. – Closing of the finish.

Registration: Performed in two steps:

1. A request for participation is submitted HERE until 04.08.2023; afterwards registration is possible only before the start.

2. A starting fee is paid according to the information received on the application.

Starting fee:

Paid until 24.07.2023: 35 BGN.

Paid from 25.07 until 30.07.2023: 40 BGN.

Paid from 01.08 until 04.08.2023: 45 BGN.

Paid at the start: 60 BGN.

Winners from previous races of Five Mountains chain in the categories Men and Women are eligible to participate without a starting fee and are kindly asked to submit a participation request beforehand.

Additional information: Transport of personal baggage RS2 – Yastrebets  will be provided. This is also the place where the awards will be distributed.

Rankings and rewards: Individual, in finishing order. Cups for the winners in Men and Women. Medals for the first three in every category. Material prizes for the first three in Men and Women up to 20 and 45+. Medals for the first three in Men and Women of the 14km distance.

Awards ceremony: The ceremony will take place RS2 – Yastrebetz near the cabin lift station as soon as the first three of a certain category are available.

Every participant that completes the race within the control time will receive a medal that can form a plaquette with medals from the other races of the Five Mountains chain.

Every participant will receive a 15 BGN voucher for Lefterovata kashta – a great place for a mountain getaway that can be combined with mountain running and biking up high in the Rhodope mountains.

Every participant that completes the race will also receive at the finish bio vegan chocolate bar Benjamissimo : 100% joy. 100% pure. 100% made in Bulgaria!

After the finish: The cabin lift from Yastrebets to Borovets is free of charge when a race number is presented. The last cabin leaves 18:00h. Getting to the lift has to be done on foot by following the marked path back for about 7km. Alternatively, to get to Borovets on foot, the Musalenska path can be used – 12km. From the Cabin lift station in Borovets to Samokov transport will be available free of charge.

Transport: Transport from Sofia to Samokov and back will be availabe for the price of 27BGN. Departing from Vasil Levski Stadium parking at 7:00 am on the 6th of August (Sunday). Return trip from Iskar Stadium at 7pm on the 6th of August. Anyone interested in using the transport service should book a seat up to 17th July. Non-participants are also welcome to use the service.

Each participant who would like to receive a souvenir branded T-shirt must order it additionally in the application for the competition by July 26, 2023. and to pay an additional BGN 15. Separately, a branded sports T-shirt with a zipper Five Mountains can be ordered for BGN 45 up to 19th July.


All participants that start the race are covered by insurance from 09:00 to 17:30h for the day of the event.
